April WIPocalypse

I actually had this started the day after the original post was supposed to be done.....I just didn't have pictures yet and then I got busy and forgot that I hadn't hit publish. >.> sorry folks.

Well it's that time of year again....and this month's question:  How do you keep your stash organized?

Well.....since I'm getting ready to move right now everything is in a box so it's not all that organized anymore.

That being said, most of my thread is all wound on bobbins, with the brand on the left (DMC, J&P, whatever) and the number on the right if it is a paper bobbin.  The plastic ones (which I recently got) have the DMC code stickers on them since I only buy DMC. All of these are in two plastic boxes that are sectioned. I picked them up at Walmart or Hobby Lobby.

Old pic.  Both are now full of thread.
I used to buy plastic bags and store my thread in them with a slip of paper in it that had the code on it which I mostly used for kits.  These bags were then stored on two large rings.  That being said....it was annoying to flip through the bags and a lot of times I would loose the paper and forget what number thread it was.  So I'm going to have to go through those at some point and figure out what I'm doing with all the threads if I don't remember.

I started keeping my print-outs, pamphlets and small freebie kits in a brad pocket folder, since that is all I had at the time.  My kits if they have been opened and worked on are in individual gallon zip-lock bags.  I started doing this after my last move since when I went to unpack the box I found I had to sort through a lot of the thread bundles and figure out which pattern they went with.

My pattern books and the folder used to be on my bookshelf and it's where they will go when I unpack everything after I move. All my thread, kits, fabric, ect used to be kept in an extra drawer in the bedroom entertainment dresser but since that piece of furniture will probably be going in storage I will have to figure out where I'm going to store it in the apartment.  I'll figure that out when I move though.

I also got a small wooden craft tool chest from my uncle. I store needles, small hoops and my waste canvas here.  I also keep my spare set of sewing scissors here which since I'm constantly misplacing them my 'spare' set isn't really there for long.  I constantly loose one pair, grab whichever one is the 'spare' at the time then use that one.

The top opens but I currently have stuff on it since I'm sorting through everything and packing.  And yes, that is Christmas stuff to the left that I missed when packing up Christmas decorations last year.  They were put all in one place in hopes that I would put them away....eventually. ;)

My uncle had 2 of these.  One of which had never even been taken out of the box!  My little brother wanted the other one. I figured this would be perfect to store needles, small hoops, etc in.  I could even store the skeins of variegated thread I own in it since I don't have those on bobbins. The drawers are lined with a green felt which is nice.

My ideal set up is either finding those DMC drawers that craft store has (not likely) or the 10 drawer, with insert, Bisley Collection Cabinets from the Container Store (link: http://www.containerstore.com/shop/collections/hobby/drawers?productId=10000342&N=72540) - a tad out of my price range at the moment. Nor is it practical since I have to move all the time so I don't really have an ideal craft room set up to start with.

Until next time.....happy stitching! ^_^

  2. Hahah yeah me too. I have several ideas for my ideal craft room set up that is constantly changing when I see other set ups, but I need to actually have a house that I'm going to live in for a decent amount of time to do so. ^_^

  3. Well, you know I have quite some problems about the storage situation as well. I'll need to start figure something out once I'm settled in an apartement of my own, but for now everything stays on the shelf, haha. I'm sure you'll find your dream setup eventually :D

    1. Thanks. It's not big enough to hold my larger hoops but it's nice to have a place to keep my spare needles and scissors even if I am constantly misplacing them. ;)
